Join the server
Address not set yetHow to join
- Open Minecraft and go to Multiplayer (Java) or Servers (Bedrock).
- Add a server with the address above.
- Apply for the whitelist below. An admin will approve it.
- Servers on Aternos sleep when nobody is online. Someone with start access has to turn it on from Aternos first. The Q&A page explains how to get that access.

Questions and answers
Everything a new player needs: connecting, making an Aternos account and getting permission to turn the server on.
How do I connect to the server in Minecraft?
Server address: address not set yet Port: 25565 (default) Version: ask an admin
Java Edition
- Start Minecraft (Java Edition) using the version listed above, then click Multiplayer.
- Click Add Server.
- Type any name, for example the server name.
- Paste the server address into Server Address. Leave the port out unless the port above is not 25565.
- Click Done, select the server in the list and click Join Server.
Bedrock Edition
- Click Play, open the Servers tab and scroll to the bottom.
- Click Add Server, then enter a name, the server address and the port above.
- Click Save, then select the server and join.
If it will not connect: the server may be asleep (Aternos turns it off when nobody is on), you may not be on the whitelist yet, or your Minecraft version does not match. Read the next questions.
How do I make an Aternos account?
You need a free Aternos account so an admin can let you turn the server on. It is not needed just to play.
- Open aternos.org in your browser.
- Choose Sign up (also called Register).
- Pick a username and a password, and enter your email address if it asks for one. Confirm the email if Aternos sends you a message.
- Log in. Write your Aternos username down. Admins need that exact name.
Never give anyone your Aternos password, including admins. Sharing access works with just your username. Your Aternos username is not always the same as your Minecraft name.
How do I get to the servers on Aternos?
- Log in at aternos.org.
- Click Servers at the top right of the page (or open aternos.org/servers). This list shows your own servers and any server someone has shared with you.
- Click the server to open its control panel. You will see a big Start button.
- Press Start and wait. Aternos sometimes puts servers in a queue. If it asks you to confirm, press confirm so you keep your place. When it says the server is online, join from Minecraft.
If the server is not in your list, you have not been given access yet. See the next question.
How do I ask for permission to turn the server on?
- Make an Aternos account (see above) and remember the username.
- Fill in the request form on this page, under the questions. Use your Aternos username, not your email and never your password.
- You get a request ID. Use it on the Status page to see where your request is.
- An admin approves it and adds you on Aternos with the Start permission only. When the status says Access granted, the server appears on your Aternos Servers page.
Start access only lets you switch the server on and off. You cannot change settings, open the console or touch the files.
I was approved but I cannot see the server on Aternos
- Check the Status page. It must say Access granted. Approved only means the admin said yes, the admin still has to add you on Aternos.
- Make sure you are logged in to the same Aternos account whose username you sent.
- Refresh and open the Servers page again.
- Still nothing? Tell an admin on Discord. You may have a typo in the username in your request.
The server is offline. What do I do?
Aternos servers turn off by themselves when nobody is playing. Someone with start access has to turn it on from their Aternos Servers page. If you have access, press Start. If you do not, ask a friend who has it or an admin, and apply for start access using the form below.
Do I need to be on the whitelist?
Yes. Apply on the Join page. An admin approves it and adds your Minecraft name. Whitelist access lets you play. Start access is separate and only lets you turn the server on.
Which Minecraft version do I need?
Use the same version as the server: see the version above. A different version will refuse to connect.
How do land and trades work?
Land is registered with the server government, so you can claim unclaimed land, sell your own land or buy land from other players. Trades cover items, services, rentals and loans. Admins approve claims and keep the records. Open Land map, Claim land, Sell land or Trades from the top bar.
Ask for permission to start the server
This is separate from the whitelist. An admin reviews every request.
Start-access requests are closed right now. Ask an admin on Discord.
